NCP 2025 fall campaign:
Shelter Me! - success!

"This is a crisis,” NCP contact Isha Shrestha wrote.
“Without support, this shelter will be closed and these girls,
mostly between 10 and 25 years old, left without care.”
NCP partner Shakti Samuha runs six shelters around Nepal
for the purpose of helping women and girls who have been
trafficked recuperate.
One especially critical shelter is near the border with India. There, in conjunction with local authorities, Shakti helps intercept hundreds of girls at high risk of being trafficked every year, while helping survivors of trafficking heal.
As of the end of September, all funding for this shelter had been cut by the international donor. This came on the heels of USAID ending its support of Shakti last January, causing the loss of a quarter of their staff.
The minimal annual budget to employ the housemother and cook and provide food for staff and residents: $15,825. NCP took this on as our fall 2025 campaign - and raised over $40,000!
We forwarded $22,000 of this amount along with our 2026 grant
to Shakti, providing enough funding for basic services as well as
additional assistance to these young women. In conversation
with Shakti leadership we jointly decided to hold onto the
remaining amount in case they are not able to find a sponsoring
international partner by fall of 2026. They can then use these
additional funds to keep the shelter in operation for the following
year.
Thank you to everyone - individuals and groups - who helped these young women have the shelter they need to be safe, to recuperate from their trauma and to step forward into a new future.
