About the Event
This trip is hosted by longtime NCP partner Shakti Samuha, the first antitrafficking organization to be formed by survivors of the sex trade. We will learn about Shakti's work of education, prevention and recuperation, and visit shelters where beneficiaries are housed, cared for, and trained for a new life. We will hear stories of women from the entertainment sector who are now benefiting from micro loans provided by NCP, and meet school girls receiving NPC support. There will be an opportunity to visit a Tibetan refugee camp and a thriving fair trade shop factory, and to experience cultural and religious festivals. We will have significant encounters with the natural world, including an overnight stay in Dhampus for a striking viewpoint of the Annapurna Range and a day-long safari into Chitwan National Park, home to rhinos, crocodiles, all manner of monkeys and birds, and the elusive but thriving Bengal tiger. Transport is mostly by public bus, with accommodations in safe, clean, modest hotels. Participants are to arrive on January 9 (preferably late morning), which typically means departing the USA on January 7. Cost: $995 ($875 - student)
